Neapolitan Crèche Ornament

Ornament developed from unknown artisans, Naples, Italy, Crèche, 1725-55, from The Art Institute of Chicago’s collection. 

One of the finest examples outside of Naples, the Art Institute’s spectacular crèche features over 200 figures—including no less than 50 animals and 41 still-life objects—configured in an ornate cabinet with a painted backdrop.  The ornament features a detail focused on the trio of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
