Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926) is one of the greatest and most enduringly popular artists of all time. Monet's work went through many thematic and stylistic phases during his long career; always his goal was to capture the impression on the viewer's eye and record the visual sensation of light and color that guided his brush.  His painting Cliff Walk at Pourville is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
