Umbrella developed from Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave (detail), 1830-33, from the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection.
From the much-celebrated series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjurokkei), Hokusai’s woodblock print The Great Wave (1830/33), is one of the most famous and recognizable works of art in the world.
